Prospect's NEWS TO ME Premieres Tonight

Prospect Theater Company has announced the world premiere of NEWS TO ME, an original teen musical revue inspired by current events. Hero-rats, robot dogs, squatters and squirrels leap from page to stage at The Times Center, in this special one night performance, held tonight, July 24th at 7pm.

This 2015 culminating showcase performance for Prospect's Summer Intensive Program features an array of hot-off-the-presses songs inspired by stories ripped from recent news headlines, and penned by Prospect Theater Company alumni writers. The ensemble cast of 14 features the students of Prospect's 2015 Summer Intensive Program: Daniella Berman, Kayla Caban, Abby Cooley, Tanna Dodson, Ruby Fair, Irena Kogarova, Lila Marooney, Marcella Michalakes, Emely Perez, Violet Prete, Amaqui Sanchez-Warner, Deryka Tso, Jeddi Tso, and Josiah Vasquez.

Writers who have contributed material to the revue include: Britt Bonney, Michael Cooper, Joseph Guarino & Ming Aldrich-Gan, John Herin & Alden Terry, Gordon Leary & Julia Meinwald, Brandon Michael Lowden, Eric March, Peter Mills, Jason Purdy, Sheilah Rae & Michele Brourman, Jenny Stafford & Willem Oosthuysen, Amanda Yesnowitz & J. Oconer Navarro, and Mehmet Salih Yildirim. Contributing writers were asked to write an original song inspired by a recent news story.

News to Me is co-directed by Dev Bondarin and Simone Zamore Curbelo, with choreography bySimone Zamore Curbelo, and is music directed by Peter Mills. The performance is curated byDev Bondarin and Cara Reichel, who is also the Associate Director.

In addition to a culminating performance, Prospect's Summer Intensive offers a variety of workshops, as well as field trips and special behind-the-scenes theater experiences. Master classes with Broadway performers and writers deepen general knowledge of theatre practice, strengthen vocal and acting technique, and enhance overall confidence. With a focus on ensemble-building, Prospect's mission is to excite young artists about the process of creating a new musical, and to empower them through training.
