Whatever happened to the classic Kung-Fu movies and stories? With the exception of Kill Bill, full of martial-arts savvy assassins, modern books, television and film seem to be entirely devoid of a strong Kung-Fu story with a philosophical backbone.

Author Kim VanOver was originally a journalist by trade, but has always had a passion for science fiction and fantasy writing. The classic tales of a young person jumping into the world of martial arts and gaining not just power, but stronger morals and discipline as well, have inspired him greatly.

"My favorite stories always bestow a great power on someone who never expects to have any," VanOver said. "What ultimately makes them the best is when they learn the philosophy behind their new power and embrace the full discipline of the culture."

"Prodigy: Daughter of the Chai'" is VanOver's new novel in the "Chai' Cycle" series. The story tells of the rapidly diminishing Chai' fellowship and their search for a method of rebuilding to survive and keep the world at peace. A young girl is discovered, who seems to carry remarkable aptitude for their powers and abilities; she may just be the key to their survival.

Much like it's main character, "Prodigy: Daughter of the Chai" hopes to revive the lost art of the martial arts story with some fantasy and metaphysical philosophy to pack a more powerful punch.
