On June 14th, Martha Plimpton will start performances as Darlene in the off-Broadway revival of David Rabe's Hurlyburly at the 37 Arts Theatre; she replaces Parker Posey, who leaves the show on June 11th.

Film star Posey is departing the show to begin shooting on Superman Returns. Plimpton will be the second female replacement in the cast; Elizabeth Berkley recently succeeded original cast member Catherine Kellner.

Plimpton has performed on Broadway in Sixteen Wounded. Her off-Broadway resumé includes roles in False Servant at the East 13 St. Theatre, Flesh and Blood at the New York Theatre Workshop, Hobson's Choice (for which she won a 2002 Obie Award and received a Lucille Lortel nomination) at the Atlantic Theatre, SubUrbia at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theatre, and Pericles at the Public Theatre. At Chicago's Steppenwolf Theater Company, where Plimpton has been an ensemble member since 1998, she has appeared in The Libertine, Playboy of the Western World, The Glass Menagerie and as the title character in Hedda Gabler; she also directed Absolution at the same theatre. A respected film actress, her credits include 200 Cigarettes, Beautiful Girls, Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, Stanley & Iris, Parenthood, Running on Empty and The Goonies.

Hurlyburly features a revised script by Rabe, direction by New Group artistic director Scott Elliott and is produced by the New Group in association with Jeffrey Seller, Kevin McCollum and The Kennedy/Marshall Company. In addition to Posey and Berkley, Ethan Hawke, Wallace Shawn, Bobby Cannavale, Josh Hamilton and Halley Wegryn Gross make up the stellar cast of the show, which is set amid the sex-and-drug-ridden excess of early eighties Hollywood.

Hurlyburly opened at the Acorn Theatre on January 27th before transferring to the 499-seat 37 Theatre Arts A on April 21st, where it will play out its limited run to July 2nd.

37 Arts Theatre A is located at 450 West 37th Street (near 10th Ave.). Tickets to Hurlyburly are available by calling (212) 307-4100.
