Photo Flash: Tullahoma Theatre's RENT Continues Amid Controversy

BroadwayWorld has just obtained photos from the recently buzzed about production of RENT in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Presented by the South Jackson Civic Center's Performing Arts for Children and Teens, the show has met with local religious opposition, as first reported on Director of the Arts Integrity Initiative at the New School for Drama, Howard Sherman's blog. BroadwayWorld previously quoted Sherman's post, reporting that an unnamed pastor sent an email around appealing to the community to have the RENT production stopped. He elaborated on the content included in the show, describing it as, "a musical about a group of college age students who choose to live a "bohemian" (sexually, morally, and legally permissive lifestyle in New York City)."

"While I have no objection to a theater group selecting and performing any musical or play they choose," he clarifies. "This is our own (Tullahoma) theater group! What is worse is that this play was selected for PACT. The acronym stands for "Performing Arts for Children and Teens."
