Louis K. Meisel Gallery (141 Prince St.), and Bernarducci.Meisel.Gallery (37 W 57th St. #6), are pleased to announce lightpaintings, the New York City solo exhibition debut of artist Stephen Knapp who infuses his works with vibrant colors and creates art that interacts with and is transformed by light. On view and open to the public at Louis K. Meisel Gallery from November 18, 2014 to January 31, 2015, Knapp will display these unique light-based installations where he harnesses white light and directs it through an intricate network of shaped & polished glass to create complex, eye-catching abstractions. Beginning on 12/11, the works will also be on view at Bernarducci.Meisel.Gallery. Scroll down for a sneak peek at the art!

lightpaintings will include eight site-specific pieces as well as several smaller-scale works; hi-res images are available upon request. An invite-only official opening reception at Bernarducci.Meisel.Gallery is set for Thursday, 12/11 at 6:30pm and a special press opening at Louis K. Meisel Gallery is set for Monday, 12/15 at 6:30pm. For more information on Knapp and the exhibition you can visit www.lightpaintings.com.

Existing somewhere between sculpture and painting, his work''s inability to be categorized is part of what makes the pieces so fascinating. Knapp has been experimenting with light throughout his career. Beginning as a photographer, he recorded and transformed light through his camera lens. Over time, his work has manifested itself in a variety of mediums and focused more exclusively on the unique properties of light. Knapp infuses his pieces with vibrant colors, transforming white light into pure color through a series of coated safety glass pieces and each installation takes on a new life depending on where it is displayed, exceeding its physical dimensions to create depth.

lightpaintings is open to viewing from the public; Louis K. Meisel Gallery hours are Tues. to Sat. 10am to 6pm; Bernarducci.Meisel.Gallery hours are Tues. to Sat. 10am to 5:30pm.

Stephen Knapp has gained an international reputation for his large-scale, site-specific installations and has had solo museum exhibitions throughout the United States. He lives and works in Central Massachusetts and a few of Knapp''s prior standout large-scale works include ten 7' x 18' carved slate and mosaic tile murals in 1999 for the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Spring, MD; three of the largest glass glaze ceramic murals in the world for USAA Federal Savings Bank in San Antonio, TX; and a 60'' x 100'' exterior installation on the north face of Tampa, Florida's City Hall in 2006.
