The London production of the smash hit musical Wicked, starring Idina Menzel, began previews on Thursday, September 7th and opens at London's Apollo Victoria Theatre on Wednesday, September 27th.

The London cast includes: Menzel, who will recreate her Tony Award-winning Broadway performance as Elphaba, Helen Dallimore, who will make her West End debut as Glinda, Adam Garcia (Fiyero), Miriam Margolyes (Madame Morrible), Nigel Planer (The Wizard), Martin Ball (Doctor Dillamond), James Gillan (Boq), Katie Rowley Jones (Nessarose). Kerry Ellis will be standby for Elphaba and Annalene Beechey will be standby for Glinda. From January 2007, the role of Elphaba will be played by Kerry Ellis.  Joe Mantello and Wayne Cilento once again serve as director and choreographer, respectively.  The show is produced by Marc Platt and David Stone.

Based on the novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, Wicked has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman.   Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. Wicked tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch."
