The Des Moines Community Playhouse presents the new comedy, "Becky's New Car," Oct. 19-Nov. 4. Get a first look at the show in the photos below!

Becky Foster -- caught in middle age, middle management, and a middling marriage -- is tempted to flee her own life. She leads a predictable life with Joe, her husband of 28 years and the carefree owner of a roofing company. Her 26-year-old son, Chris, is still living at home, constantly irritating Becky with his string of incoherent psychoanalyses. Becky has no hope for change. Her routine desk job at a local car dealership bores her, until a socially inept and grief-struck millionaire comes in to purchase nine cars for his employees.

Under the impression that Becky is a widow, the millionaire, Walter Flood, becomes smitten with her. He offers Becky nothing short of a new life. Eager to get away from her daily existence, she soon finds herself navigating the twists and turns of a superficial and uncontrollable double life.

Throughout, Becky yearns for a new car, but when things go amiss, might she end up taking a back seat in her own life?

"Becky's New Car" is Steven Dietz's comedic take on the perils of the middle-aged. The Playhouse cast, directed by Ron Ziegler, features Rebecca Scholtec as Becky Roster and Jim Benda as Walter Flood. Cast Members include John Graham, Jason Rainwater, Kourtney Richards, Karen Schaeffer, and Michael Tallman.

The Playhouse will host preshow talks and weekend cabarets in conjunction with "Becky's New Car." Audiences are encouraged to come to the theatre 30 minutes prior to curtain to hear artistic staff talk about the "inside story." After the show on Friday and Saturday evenings, audiences are invited to stay for live music and drinks in the lobby.

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
