Photo Coverage: Xanadu Cast Enjoys 'Strange Magic' Sundae at Serendipity 3
Cast members of Broadway’s hit show Xanadu, including stars Kerry Butler, Mary Testa, and Marty Thomas, with roller skates in tow, rolled into Serendipity 3, the landmark NYC dessert emporium, to receive New York’s sweetest honor – an ice cream sundae created just for the show called Xanadu “Strange Magic” Sundae!
A magical concoction “where nobody dared to go”- “but we have made it real”!
Press notes describe the sundae as "3 scoops of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream that “fly so high” in a magical disco-lighted goblet flowing with raspberry and strawberry toppings. Rays of rainbow laces and watermelon twizzlers sit under a multi-colored whipped cream cloud that only Kira could descend from. A galaxy of silver shooting stars and flying saucers along with mini ice cream cone dreams top off heaven in a goblet. A “million lights are dancing” from the disco ball lollipop atop this sweet ice cream dream."
Available for a limited time at Serendipity 3 (60th Street btwn 2nd and 3rd Ave).
Xanadu was nominated for 4 2008 Tony Awards including Best Choreography, Best Book, Best Actress and Best Musical. The show received the 2008 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical as well as the 2008 Drama Desk Award for Best Book of a Musical (Douglas Carter Beane).
With a book "ingeniously adapted" (New York Times) by Douglas Carter Beane, and a score by Jeff Lynne (writer and producer for the Electric Light Orchestra (E.L.O.)) and John Farrar (responsible for most of the hits performed by Olivia Newton-John in the 1970's), XANADU features the top 20 Billboard hits, "Magic," "Xanadu," "All Over the World" and "I'm Alive." Award-winning Christopher Ashley directs "at roller-derby speed" (New York Times) with choreography by Dan Knechtges.
