On Monday, April 26, Matt Doyle (Spring Awakening, Bye Bye Birdie), Emma Hunton (Spring Awakening) and Krysta Rodriguez (The Addams Family), Kelli O'Hara, Steven Pasquale, de'Adre Aziza and Greg Naughton headlined the NewMusicalTheatre.com Launch Concert at NYC's (Le) Poisson Rouge. BroadwayWorld was there to capture the evening.
Also performing was Whitney Bashor (The Fantasticks), Steven Booth (Avenue Q, Glory Days), Alex Brightman (Wicked), Curt Hansen (Hairspray), Jay Armstrong Johnson (Hair), Morgan Karr (Spring Awakening), Lindsay Mendez (Everyday Rapture, Grease), Kate Wetherhead (Legally Blonde, Ordinary Days), Natalie Weiss (Wicked), Jason "Sweettooth" Williams (Bloodsong of Love) and Betsy Wolfe (Everyday Rapture, 110 in the Shade).
The event not only saluted the website's launch, but celebrated the future of musical theater by bringing together an unparalleled group of young songwriters with some of Broadway's best talent. Presented by Sh-K-Boom & Ghostlight Records, the show will highlight the work of the original six writers represented on the site - Nick Blaemire (Glory Days), Adam Gwon (Ordinary Days), Joe Iconis (The Black Suits, Things to Ruin), Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk (The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown, Tales from the Bad Years), Ryan Scott Oliver (Mrs. Sharp, Darling), and Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Edges, Dogfight).
The concert was directed by David Ruttura and featured music direction by Matt Hinkley. The concert was produced by Kurt Deutsch and Noah Cornman of Sh-K-Boom & Ghostlight Records, in association with Katie Riegel and Joey Oliva of jokr Productions and John Johnson.
