Performance Now presents "Bye Bye Birdie" September 9 - 25 at the Lakewood Cultural Center, 470 S. Allison Parkway in Lakewood. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 - $35 and are available or online at www.performancenow.org or by calling 303-987-7845.

"Bye Bye Birdie" centers around rock 'n' roll superstar Conrad Birdie (loosely based on Elvis Presley), who, to the dismay of his adoring fans, is about to be drafted into the army by Uncle Sam. Birdie's manager, Albert, and his secretary/girlfriend, Rosie, cook up a plan to send him off in style with a hit new song and one last kiss from a lucky fan on "The Ed Sullivan Show." A town full of colorful characters including crazed teenagers, a jealous boyfriend, and spotlight stealing father make for a rollicking good time.

"An English Teacher," " What Did I Ever See in Him?," " Put on a Happy Face," " One Boy," "A Lot of Livin' to Do," "Kids," " Rosie" and "Spanish Rose" are musical theatre classics.

The cast includes Taylor Scott (Conrad Birdie), Alannah Vaughn (Rose Alvarez), Adam Luhrs (Albert Peterson), Katie Jackson (Kim Mcafee) and Carla Kaiser Kotrc (Mae).

About Performance Now

For theatre to grow in our community young artists must have the training to prepare them to grow as an artist; Performance Now dedicates at least one show each year to this purpose.

Besides onstage training there are many opportunities for new artists, young and old, to acquire different skills associated with the theatre, including set design and construction, stage management, costumes, and make-up. Our training programs help to give the apprentice a better understanding of theatre in general, while providing them experience in the different areas associated with the production.
