Emmy-winning comedienne PAULA POUNDSTONE is famous for her razor-sharp wit, drawing from her own complex life: three kids, 13 cats, motherhood, demanding job, crazy travel schedule, her frustration at getting older, and a bag of neuroses, including her famous inability to ever shut up. In other words: she's just like many of us.

She'll perform live in Middlebury's intimate Town Hall Theater for two performances on Saturday, March 8, a presentation of Kingdom County Productions.

Poundstone is very funny, but what separates her from the pack of comics working today is her ability to be spontaneous with a crowd. No two shows are the same. It's not that she doesn't repeat material. She does, but always with a different shape and trajectory drawn from the moment. Paula's exchanges with the audience are hilarious but never mean or done at a person's expense.

One of Comedy Central's "Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time," Paula Poundstone is a frequent guest on The Tonight Show, Letterman, A Prairie Home Companion, and NPR's Wait Wait! Don't Tell Me! Poundstone is so quick that audience members often leave complaining that their cheeks hurt from laughter.

"Paula often plays very large theaters, because she's so popular," says THT executive director Douglas Anderson. "But very few people get the chance to see her in an intimate setting like THT. It's going to be a very special evening."

Performances are at 6:00 pm and 8:30 pm. Tickets are $56 + tax, and may be purchased at www.townhalltheater.org, 802 382-9222, at the THT Box Office (daily except Sunday, noon-5 pm) or at the door, if available. A cash bar and snacks will be available. Please note that Paula Poundstone's show may contain some adult situations and language.
