Director Neil Patrick Harris has taken the conventional cabaret structure and turned it upside down, creating a show unlike anything that has been seen before. Add the musical direction of Seth Rudetsky and you're in for something special. Funny yet emotional, energetic yet raw - Burtka, Davidwill be a night to remember at 54 Below.

FRANK SHINER

$30-40 cover charge. $25 food & beverage minimum.
FRANK SHINER RETURNS TO 54 BELOW.

"Just when you thought that Josh Groban and Michael Buble' held the patent on amazing voices, along comes Frank Shiner to shatter those preconceived notions." -LA Examiner "Frank Shiner is a performer that has the passion of the classic great musicians like, Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin. He shines because he isn't afraid to embrace that era of classic music, even though some of this lyrics and vocal delivering offers up a feeling of a different generation." 4 Stars - thecelebritycafe.com. Winner of two 2014 LA Music Critic Awards. The career path Frank Shiner originally envisioned took an unexpected detour. Starting out as a singer and actor, he appeared in more than 60 theater and television roles (at the time appearing using his middle name Matthew). To make ends meet he was also the bottle flipping bartender at the legendary nightspot Visage who Tom Cruise came to see while preparing for his role in Cocktail. Eventually, Shiner made the difficult decision to put his career on hold to raise his family. Fast forward to today and his triumphant encore from his sold-out show earlier this summer at 54 Below. Prompted by his wife's bout with breast cancer and at her urging, Shiner took the stage at a local venue for the first time in years and suddenly the feelings and the desire to perform came rushing back, resulting in one helluva comeback. A meeting with some music industry heavyweights resulted in The Real Me, Frank Shiner's aptly titled show and critically acclaimed new album which was just named BEST CD: Male by the LA Music Critics, with his Top 5 hit "Feels Like Home," written by Randy Newman, winning Best Single. His new 54 Below show takes hidden gems from famous songwriters and showcases them in their proper light. From the "deliciously jazzy" simplicity of Elvis Costello's "Almost Blue," to the "cool, sexy" rhythms of his new single, Tom Waits' "Temptation, to the virtually unknown Doc Pomus and Dr. John song "A World I Never Made," to Jimmy Webb's sinfully good "It's A Sin When You Love Somebody," to a couple of standouts from Paul Simon's One Trick Pony Soundtrack, "Long Long Day," and "Nobody," this is the modern American Songbook at it's finest, performed by a vocalist who captures the essence and mood of each song beautifully. Get ready for a night of great music and memorable stories with an equal mix of laughter and tears.
