PLANCHETTE

By Carolyn Gage

During a nor'easter on the New Hampshire coast, in 1879, two fourteen-year-olds share their secrets about trauma they have survived and the deeper secrets about their sexual orientations and gender identities. In the play, the two classmates use "planchette," an early version of the Ouija board and a popular parlor game, to communicate truths for which they have no words and no community.

Carolyn Gage is the author of twelve books and more than sixty-three plays, including musicals, one-acts, one-woman shows and dramas. The winner of numerous awards, her work is widely published and performed. She tours in her own shows, offering lectures and workshops on lesbian culture and history. Carolyn Gage has a knack for bringing familiar experiences into a historical context. She reminds us LGBTQ issues existed before we had the vocabulary to describe them.
