PINOCCHIO, ALADDIN and More Set for Theatre at the Center's 2013-14 Young Audiences Season

Theatre at the Center's Theatre for Young Audiences, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, Indiana, recognized for bringing exciting, fun and educational productions announces their 2013-2014 season. Help a boy find his conscience in Pinocchio, the fun original musical running October 10 through October 12; the classic tale of The Velveteen Rabbit runs December 2, 3, 5-7, 9-14; The MLK Project: The Fight for Civil Rights, an incredible one-woman show, takes the stage January 27 through January 31; and the beloved story of Aladdin comes to the stage April 9 through April 13.

The season will kick off with the original musical adaptation of Pinocchio running from October 10 through October 12. Based on the classic story, this show follows Pinocchio as he embarks on many adventures in his quest to become a real boy. Meet the Blue Fairy, Geppetto, a Silly Fox, Madame Mostaccioli and many more crazy friends. Pinocchio is a family favorite sure to educate and entertain! Groups in attendance have the opportunity to display their artistic abilities by entering the Pinocchio coloring contest. The winners will receive tickets to Theatre at the Center's production of The Velveteen Rabbit.

Celebrate the magic of the holiday season with the timeless musical adaptation of The Velveteen Rabbit, opening December 2 and running December 3, 5-7 and 9-14. The whole family can enjoy this heartwarming show inspired by Margery Williams' classic story of a stuffed toy rabbit made real by a child's enduring love. Groups in attendance will have the chance to enter The Velveteen Rabbit coloring contest. Winners of the contest will receive coupons for a dozen donuts at Munster Donut, Munster, Indiana.

The MLK Project: The Fight for Civil Rights, running January 27 through January 31, is an amazing one-woman show that follows a student's personal transformation through studying the Civil Rights Movement. This tour-de-force performance features transformations by the actress into several different characters and brings life to both celebrated and unsung Civil Rights activists. The show uses hip hop, poetry, history and multi-media design to exhibit the power of turning "anger into action". Watch as the central character discovers that her poetry, raps and mind are far more powerful than her fists. This production will feature special pricing, with all tickets only $5.50 each. Attending groups can enter The MLK Project: The Fight for Civil Rights Essay Contest for a chance to win a $100, $50 or $25 Youth Savings Account at the Peoples Bank in Munster, Indiana.

The beloved tale of Aladdin comes to Theater at the Center and runs April 9 through April 13. The story follows Aladdin, Jasmine and not one, but two Genies! Come and enjoy this original musical edition of the Arabian Nights story with witty modern references. This classic tale with a new twist is a can't-miss. Groups in attendance will have the chance to join the fun by entering the Aladdin Coloring Contest. The winner will receive coupons for Ice Cream Cones at Gayety's Chocolates and Ice Cream in Lansing, IL. On Friday, April 11th, Theatre at the Center Theatre for Young Audiences hosts a special magical event, Aladdin Prince and Princess Party. Dinner begins at 5 p.m. and includes a buffet of chicken fingers, french fries, juice box and sundae bar. This dinner is open to the public and costs only $12 per person. Dinner is followed by the performance at 7 p.m.; public performance costs apply.

All performances are one hour. Group performances are weekdays at 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. There are also select Saturday afternoon public performances.
