Despite the fact that Broadway theatres are anticipated to be at a premium this spring - with close to two dozen productions announcing their debuts in addition to the long-running shows occupying Broadway houses - two productions are moving full speed ahead.

Producers for PETER AND THE STARCATCHER and MAGIC/BIRD tell the New York Times that there are no plans to delay their spring opening nights until another season; in fact, the representatives are confident that they will have theatres announced within the coming weeks.

Peter and the Starcatcher opened to rave reviews last March in its premiere Off Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop. The sold out run was extended by popular demand and set a record for the highest grossing single day in NYTW's history. The production went on to receive five Drama Desk nominations (and a win for Outstanding Music in a Play); two Obie Awards (for Direction and Design) and two Lucille Lortel Awards (for Outstanding Lead Actor and Outstanding Choreography). No cast has been announced for the Broadway transfer yet; the Off Broadway cast consisted of Adam Chanler-Berat as Peter (Next To Normal); Christian Borle as Black Stache (Angels in America, Legally Blonde, Spamalot, Mary Poppins), and Celia Keenan-Bolger as Molly (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Les Miserables, Bachelorette).

For its part, Magic/Bird has already announced its two leads: Kevin Daniels will inhabit the role of Magic Johnson, while Tug Coker takes on Larry Bird. At the heart of one of the fiercest rivalries in sports history, two of the greatest basketball players of all-time battled for three championships, bragging rights, and the future of their sport in the 1980’s. Johnson and Bird electrified the nation on the court, reinvigorated the NBA, and turned their rivalry into one of the greatest and most famous friendships in professional sports.
