
Various media outlets have reported that Oscar-winner Penelope Cruz has filmed a scene for the Sex and the City sequel. Cruz filmed a cameo appearance, playing herself on the red carpet.
Miley Cyrus and Liza Minnelli will also join the 'Sex' ladies in their big screen sequel. The 2009 Oscar-Winning actress is also featured on the cover and inside the new issue of Vanity Fair. The actress speaks about the excitement and challenges of filming her role in the upcoming film NINE. The film, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, and Nicole Kidman, is scheduled to hit cinemas November 25, 2009.
The all-star cast is directed by Rob Marshall, who also helmed critically-acclaimed 2002 musical Chicago - which garnered six Academy Awards, including a Best Supporting Actress gong for Catherine Zeta-Jones. Marion Cotillard, Kate Hudson, Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson, Sophia Loren and Judi Dench star in the film as well.
NINE is a musical with a book by Arthur Kopit and music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and is based off of Fredrico Fellini's movie 8 1/2. The play tells the story of a young film maker living in VenIce Trying to juggle all of the women in his life.
It was reported earlier this year that Warner Bros. and New Line will release "Sex and the City 2" in theaters on May 28, 2010.
The big screen sequel reteams director-writer MichaelPatrick King with his four leading ladies--Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis. John Melfi will return to produce with King and Parker.
"Sex and the City 2" will hit screens in the same date slot that "Sex and the City" did in 2008.
The big screen adapation of the hit HBO series was a runaway box office hit, opening to $57 million on its way to hitting $152.6 million domestically. 'Sex' made an even stronger showing overseas, grossing $260 million at the international box office for a worldwide total of $412.6 million.
The ladies of Sex And The City- Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis, all agreed earlier in the the year to take part in a sequel film to Sex and the City: The Movie.
