The battle between life and death is played out in Rabbit Hole Ensemble's world premiere production of The Night of Nosferatu. Written by Stanton Wood and based on the F.W. Murnau silent film Nosferatu and Bram Stoker's novel Dracula, the work will be directed by Edward Elefterion and will begin performances on September 28 at the WorkShop Theatre.

"England 1938: The promise of advancement sends real estate agent Jonathan Harker on a trip to Transylvania, despite his wife Mina's misgivings, to meet with the mysterious Count Nosferatu. But soon after his arrival, Jonathan realizes his life, indeed his very soul, is in terrible danger. For Nosferatu is one of the undead; a creature who can survive only by subsisting on the blood of the living. Sensing in Mina one who can understand the beauty of the night, Nosferatu intends to bring her into his world of eternal darkness. As Mina's dreams (and sleep-walking episodes) become more and more pronounced, she can only wait for the horror that is coming ever closer," explain press notes.

Told in the style of movement-based theatre, the cast uses their bodies and intriguing voice manipulation to bring the foreboding story and settings to life – the latter including an insane asylum, a doomed ship on a fog-shrouded sea and Nosferatu's castle. The Night of Nosferatu is the progeny of two early works (Land of the Undead and Nosferatu: The Morning of My Death) that were presented earlier this year at separate engagements at Where Eagles Dare Theatre.

The cast of The Night of Nosferatu features Danny Ashkenasi, Matt W. Cody, Paul Daily, Tatiana Gomberg, Emily Hartford and Ned Massey.

Running through October 13, The Night of Nosferatu will be performed at the MainStage space of the WorkShop Theater, located at 312 West 36th Street, (between 8th & 9th Avenues) on the 4th floor. Show times are Thursday-Saturday at 8PM, Sunday at 2PM. There will be an additional Saturday matinee performance on October 13 at 2PM.

Tickets: $18.00, $15.00 for students and seniors. Reservations: 212-352-3101 or www.theatermania.com. Members of the press are invited to all performances.
