New York Madness to Launch Fifth Season with Chisa Hutchinson, 9/21

New York Madness (NYM) is about to start its Fifth Season. With a focus on emerging artists, NYM hosts a hot night of short plays based on a theme proposed by the more established Featured Guest. The Theme is announced one week prior to the event. NYM has been hosted by the Cherry Lane Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre, ESPA/Primary Stages, INTAR Theatre, IATI Theater and they will be at The COW (Former home of The Living Theatre) for their Season Launch on September 21st at 8pm. The Season Launch will include Featured Guest Chisa Hutchinson (Blue Man Group, New York NeoFuturists, Partial Comfort, Atlantic Theater Company, Rattlestick Theater, New Dramatists) along with playwrights Cecilia Copeland*, Judith Leora*, Shaun Bennet Fountleroy, Jeffrey James Keyes, and more TBA. (*denotes Founding Member)

The Full Line up of Season Four Featured Guest Playwrights includes: Nat Cassidy (LaMaMa ETC, Lincoln Center, The Cherry Lane, The Public Theater, The Knitting Factory, Arlene's Grocery, The Kennedy Center, NYIT Award Winner, Indie Theatre Now Person of the Year), Vanessa Hidary "Hebrew Mamita" (Def Poetry Jam HBO, Tribeca Film Festival, LAByrinth Theatre, SoloNOVA, Nuyorican Poets Café, The Hip Hop Theatre Festival), Winter Miller (13P, The Gun Control Plays, The Public, The Cherry Lane, Sundance Institute, The Goodman, Theater J, Rattlestick, New Georges, Playwrights Center), and Tony Glazer (Choice Films/Theatricals, Prism Award Recipient, Soho Int Film Fest, Williamstown Theatre Festival, L.Arnold Weissberger Award Recipient, DR2, The Chain Theatre, New Jersey Rep, RedRum.)

The fifth season involves an exciting new development: the formation of the New York Madness Directing Company. The NYMDC is a diverse group of extraordinary emerging directors who have worked in previous seasons with NYM and will serve as NYM's primary directing pool. NYMDC Members include: Jeff Aldrich, Roberto Cambiero, James Favuell, Emily Lerer, Roxy MtJoy, Illana Stein, Michele Travis, and Dina Vovsi.
