According to the New York Musical Theatre Festival's website, the new musical Warrior will star Deven May and Marla Schaffel.

Billed as "The life of American-Indian Athlete Jim Thorpe," Warrior will be performed from September 12th through September 23rd at the Theatre at St. Clemens (423 W. 46th St).

With music, lyrics and book by Grammy Award-winning songwriter Marcus Hummon, Warrior will star May as Thorpe and Schaffel as Whiskey, with Louis Tucci, Duane Foster, Cole Burden and Nancy Slusser also featured in the cast.

"Born in the Indian territories before the massacre at Wounded Knee, before the emasculation of the full-blown reservation system, Jim Thorpe was the last of a generation of Native Americans to know an America that is gone foreve," state notes on the show, which will be receiving its New York premiere.

May received a Lucille Lortel nomination and a Theatre World Award for his performance in the title role of Bat Boy; he had created the role in LA, as well. Other credits include the NYMF production of The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde, Damn Yankees for Amas Musical Theatre, and a New York reading of Flora, the Red Menace.

Schaffel, who received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in Jane Eyre, was recently seen in A Broadway Diva Christmas. Other Broadway credits include Titanic and Les Miserables, and she also appeared in a recent national tour of My Fair Lady.
