National Theatre Live's MEDEA Screens Today at THT

Medea is a wife and a mother. When her husband, Jason, abandons his family for a new life, she exacts an appalling revenge and destroys everything she holds dear.

The National Theatre Live production of Euripides' Medea will be broadcast at Town Hall Theater tonight, September 4th at 7pm.

"This is a classic Greek tragedy, but the National is playing it like a horror film, which makes terrific sense," says executive director of Town Hall Theater, Doug Anderson, "It is one of the most gut-wrenching and exciting NT Live productions I have seen." This is The National's first ever staging of Medea in its 50-year history. "Thrilling and merciless," writes the Daily Telegraph, "This production of Euripides' Medea leaves you feeling both appalled and elated." Helen McCrory, playing the title role, "paces the stage like a caged and goaded animal," says the Daily Telegraph, creating a production that "never relaxes."

Carrie Cracknell directs a new translation by Ben Power, which opened in the Olivier Theatre in London on July 21st. Cracknell is remembered for her 2013 production of Ibesen's A Doll's House, another piece exploring women at the end of their rope, which was met with similar high acclaim.
