Entertainment One has announced that it will release DIANA, director Oliver Hirschbiegel's biopic of the Princess of Wales, on November 1 in a limited nationwide release, with expansion planned in subsequent weeks.

Diana stars two-time Oscar nominee Naomi Watts and Naveen Andrews and features Douglas Hodge, Geraldine James, Charles Edwards and Juliet Stevenson. Hirschbiegel directed the film from a screenplay by award-winning playwright Stephen Jeffreys, inspired by the book Diana: Her Last Love by Kate Snell which was, in turn, drawn from extensive interviews with close friends and confidantes. Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae produced the film via their Ecosse Films banner. Tim Haslam, Mark Woolley and Xavier Marchand executive produced.

The film aims to take audiences into the private realm of one of the world's most iconic and inescapably public women in the last two years of her meteoric life, exploring Diana's final rite of passage: a secret love affair with Pakistani heart surgeon Hasnat Khan (Andrews). The film is a window into the tumultuous, change-filled period from 1995-1997 in the wake of Diana's shattering divorce from Prince Charles and at the moment when she stood on the cusp of a different life, evolving into a global humanitarian, mastering her fame and becoming her own woman.

The November 1 release date puts Diana up against the wide releases of Ender's Game, Free Birds and Last Vegas with About Time, Aftermath and Le Week-End also opening in limited releases.
