Approximately 100 New York City public school students will take the stage, alongside professional actors working as teaching artists in the ENACT Dropout Prevention Program, to present the SHOW UP! 2013, ENACT's 6th annual evening of original dramatic performances that depict the obstacles to staying in school. The performance will take place tonight, May 16, 2013 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the High School of Hospitality Management, located on West 50th St. between 10th and 11th Avenues in Manhattan. The event will be preceded by a reception at 5:15 PM. This year's program will address conflict and violence, hope and solutions.

"ENACT has long been an essential partner in the City Council's goal to make schools more safe and inviting places to learn and tonight's performance is another great example of why we continue this partnership," said New York City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn said of last year's event. "I thank Diana Feldman and ENACT for their continued dedication to the children of New York City."

"Like so many people out there, we have been deeply moved and saddened by the fear of violence that comes from events like the Newtown shooting and the Boston Marathon bombing. We see how deeply this affects our students, and we have been working with them on it throughout the school year. But in truth, we have always addressed these topics, as they are impossible to avoid in the communities we serve," said ENACT Founder and President/CEO Diana Feldman. "It is truly inspirational to see how lives are transformed through this work. We sincerely thank our partners in the City Council, the United Way, and the Department of Education, and Fund for the City of New York for making these programs possible year after year. I applaud our wonderful students and staff for their hard work and dedication."

ENACT's annual SHOW UP! event is the culmination of a year of work by students in the ENACT Dropout Prevention Programs. The performance builds on ENACT's student workshops, crafting an inspiring program of theater to share students' perspectives on the daily challenges they face in New York City's public schools - challenges that can easily become barriers to graduation, such as violence, bullying, and gangs. Students use their own powers of expression to show families, teachers, and principals what they have learned and how the ENACT workshops have kept them focused on success in school and in their communities. The event is free and open to the public with reservations. To RSVP, email emma.klauber@enact.org or call (212) 741-6591 ext. 220.

ENACT is the creative behavior modification catalyst that uniquely partners with schools to create in-school "emotional growth laboratories" where proprietary, proven-effective, adaptive group drama therapy techniques help students work through difficult, relevant issues to unearth emotional "a-has" that help improve behavior. ENACT's mission is to help New York City public school students learn social, emotional and behavioral skills through creative drama and drama therapy techniques. ENACT annually serves over 10,000 NYC public school students, staff and family members. Since 1987, ENACT has served more than 150, 000 children, parents, and school staff with unique drama therapy methods, which help students develop self-awareness as the primary springboard for major personal and behavioral transformation.
