ABC is keeping it in the family with the casting news of MODERN FAMILY star Sarah Hyland in the network's upcoming three-hour reboot of DIRTY DANCING. Deadline reports that the actress will take on the role of Lisa Houseman, sister of 'Baby' (Abigail Breslin.) The role was played by Jane Brucker in the original 1987 film.

The ABC remake will follow "Baby, an innocent young woman in the early 1960s who vacations with her affluent parents and siblings in the Catskills and falls for Johnny (Cole Prattes), the resort's charismatic, skilled dance instructor and leader of the working-class entertainment." Baby's older, outgoing sister Lisa (Hyland) falls for Robbie, a flirtatious waiter at the resort. Debra Messing takes on the role of Marjorie Houseman, Baby's mother.

As BWW reported yesterday, Nicole Scherzinger has signed on to portray Penny, the role played by Cynthia Rhodes in the 1987 classic.

Sarah Hyland is best known for her role as Haley Dunphy on the ABC sitcom MODERN FAMILY for which she has received critical acclaim and numerous accolades and nominations, sharing four Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series with her cast members and garnering a Critics' Choice Television Award nomination Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

She has also appeared in the films Struck by Lightning (2012), Scary Movie 5(2013), and Vampire Academy (2014).
