The Museum of Modern Art announces film exhibitions from May through August, 2011, featuring career retrospectives of important filmmakers including Euzhan Palcy and Kathryn Bigelow; annual exhibitions such as Premiere Brazil!; a salute to Pixar showcasing feature and short films generously donated to MoMA by Pixar Animation Studios and The Walt Disney Company; and a host of other series and screenings.

MoMA presents the first U.S. career retrospective of filmmaker Euzhan Palcy (May 18-30). Born in Martinique in 1958, Palcy has produced and directed over 15 fiction features and documentaries, exploring such themes as race, gender, and politics from a decidedly feminist perspective. The exhibition includes Palcy's debut feature film, Rue Cases-Nègres (Sugar Cane Alley) (1983), a recipient of more than 17 international awards, including the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival; A Dry White Season (1989), a daring exploration of South African apartheid and the first film by a black woman director to be produced by a major Hollywood studio; and The Killing Yard (2001), which focuses on events surrounding the 1971 Attica prison uprising.

A retrospective of the work of writer, director, and producer Kathryn Bigelow (June 1-August 13) showcases eight feature selections from her oeuvre of immersive films. Bigelow has received numerous directing honors, most notably an Academy Award for Best Picture for her most recent film, The Hurt Locker (2008). Complementing the retrospective is a gallery exhibition (May 18-October 3) examining Bigelow's intuition and process as a filmmaker through paintings, concept art, film posters, drawings, storyboards, scripts, short films, and props.
