Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra presents two concerts this weekend at Shattuck Music Center Auditorium at Carroll University, 218 N. East Ave., Waukesha.

"Orchestral Occasion"

Saturday, February 22, 2014, 6:00 p.m.

featuring MYSO's String Orchestras North and Central and the acclaimedChamber Orchestra. The performance will include music by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Debussy, Mendelssohn and more. A special feature of this concert will be a solo appearance by violist Jennifer Snyder Kozoroz performing the Hummel Fantasy for Viola and Orchestra, accompanied by the MYSO Chamber Orchestra.

"Symphonic Spectacular"

Sunday, February 23, 2014, 3:00 p.m.

featuring MYSO's Sinfonia string orchestra, as well as an encore performance by the Chamber Orchestra, performing works of Bernstein, Geminiani, Debussy, Mendelssohn and more. The afternoon will include a world premiere by student composer as part of the John Downey Creation Project, a joint project between MYSO and Milwaukee's Present Music. Another special feature will be solo performances by the winners and runner-up of the 2014 Sinfonia Concerto Competition.
