Mike Daisey's THE STORY OF THE GUN to Fire at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater This Fall

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater will present Mike Daisey's provocative new monologue The Story of the Gun for three performances only, Thursday through Saturday, November 3 through 5, at 8:00pm at the Rattlestick, at 224 Waverly Place.

In The Story of the Gun, Mr. Daisey tackles his most provocative subject yet: our tortured national relationship with guns. Throwing away easy answers and partisan bickering, Daisey tells the story of the gun in America: how did it evolve as a weapon? What has gun ownership meant in our history? What does it mean for us as a people now? The debate over guns has never been more rancorous as Mr. Daisey cuts through the political static with a blend of hilarious comedy, brilliant observation, and pitch-perfect timing.

Mike Daisey has been hailed "the master storyteller"' and "one of the finest solo performers of his generation" by The New York Times. He has toured across five continents, ranging from remote islands in the South Pacific to the Sydney Opera House to abandoned theaters in post-Communist Tajikistan. He's been a guest on Real Time with Bill Maher, the Late Show with David Letterman, a longtime host and storyteller with The Moth, as well as a commentator and contributor to The New York Times, The Guardian, Harper's Magazine, Newsweek, WIRED, Vanity Fair, Slate, Salon, NPR and the BBC. In a brief, meteoric career with This American Life the two episodes dedicated to him are among the most listened to and argued about in that program's history. Mr. Daisey has been nominated for the Outer Critics Circle Award, two Drama League Awards, and is the recipient of the Bay Area Critics Circle Award, six Seattle Times Footlight Awards, the Sloan Foundation's Galileo Prize, and a MacDowell Fellowship.
