Midlife Job Loss Revives Career Dreams in New Film THE NEXTNIK

As more Americans find new jobs and careers in an economy recovering from the great recession, human stories about these life transitions have been absent from the movie screen - until now."The Nextnik," a film about a fifty-five year old company executive suddenly laid off from his job of twenty-five years, puts a human face to these career changes. With the help of a free spirited buddy from his past, lead character Larry Zimmerman navigates new career choices and relationship complications in his search for a second chapter in life. A trail of humorous and at times touching moments unfold in his path.

Filmmaker Mike Kravinsky, an Emmy and Dupont award winning ABC News video editor, drew from his personal experiences as inspiration for his film. After accepting a buyout from ABC News after twenty-nine years, his search for a new career led him to start a website, Nextnik.com, about career and life changes. "The idea for 'The Nextnik' comes from my time after ABC News documenting others who have reinvented what they do for a living as well as in life. After a time, I realized that a feature "dramedy" about reinvention is something that would make a great fictional story," says Kravinsky.

The Nextnik has won the DC Peer award for Dramatic Lead Female (Connie Bowman), and has screened at the Alexandria Film Festival, Alexandria Virginia, and the Trail Dance Film Festival, Duncan Oklahoma where it was nominated for both best drama and best actor (Rick Kain).
