A 2012 Princess Grace Award Winner, Tap Choreographer, Michelle Dorrance will open the 2013 Princes Grace Awards Gala with a special performance on October 30th at Cipriani 42nd Street. The evening, hosted by Paula Zahn, will honor 24 artists and will continue the legacy of Princess Grace (Kelly) of Monaco who helped emerging artists pursue their artistic goals during her lifetime. In total, the Foundation awards more than $1 million to artists in theater, dance performance, choreography and film.

Michelle Dorrance, recently featured in The New York Times as one of the top 10 dancers using their artistry in dance. The daughter of a ballet teacher and a soccer coach in Chapel Hill, N.C., Michelle has taken her love of tap to discover ways of making emotions visible to people who can't necessarily hear them in rhythm and tone. Since moving to New York City in 1997, Michelle has performed with the most notable tap companies in the world. In early 2011 Michelle founded Dorrance Dance/New York with the mission to help audiences view tap dance, a beautiful, old jazz form, in a new and dynamically compelling context. It is Michelle's precision, personality and artistry that makes her one of the most sought after tap soloists of her generation.

ABOUT THE PRINCESS GRACE FOUNDATION - USA

The Princess Grace Foundation-USA is a not-for-profit, publicly-supported foundation, headquartered in New York City and founded 30 years ago by Prince Rainier III of Monaco in honor of his wife, Princess Grace [Kelly].
