"First-rate singing actor" (The New York Times), Michael Winther (Mamma Mia, 1776, Songs From An Unmade Bed -- 2006 Drama Desk Nominee) returns to the Metropolitan Room after last season's sold-out, critically acclaimed set of new theater music with Love Songs. Winther teams up with the dynamic, acclaimed, jazz pianist, Dan Tepfer (2006 Montreux Jazz Festival Solo Piano Competition Winner and American Pianist's Association 2007-2009 Cole Porter Fellow in Jazz) for a unique, romantic evening of well-known standards, as well as contemporary classic popular songs that explores the intersection between jazz improvisation, musical theatre and popular music. "Mr. Winther stakes out the most fertile artistic territory in American music: the high ground where show tunes, art songs and the singer-songwriter tradition merge. Mr. Winther has both the voice and the intelligence for the job." (Stephen Holden, The New York Times)

Winther's musical director and accompanist, Dan Tepfer, is an accomplished keyboardist, winner of the Montreux Jazz Festival Solo Piano Competition and an improviser of note. Winther's comment, "It's very exciting; I never know what he's going to do," acknowledges Tepfer's arrangements, which during his solo and the instrumental intros and musical bridges, are truly original, complex and engrossing.
