'Magical Thinking,' 'Mary Poppins' to Benefit Actors Fund
Special Performances of the Broadway hits The Year of Magical Thinking and Mary Poppins, benefiting The Actors Fund, will be held this year.
The Year of Magical Thinking will hold a Special Performance on Monday, June 25th at 8 PM. The show stars Oscar, Emmy and Tony Award winner Vanessa Redgrave, and is based on the memoir of acclaimed author Joan Didion. Press notes state, "Capturing the compassion, humor, and bewilderment of a fiercely intelligent woman whose world lurches suddenly from the ordinary to the unimaginable, The Year of Magical Thinking is a love letter to a child and a tribute to an extraordinary, unconventional marriage told with raw candor and a storyteller's gift for the absurd."
Mary Poppins, based on P.L. Travers' stories and the 1964 Disney film, will hold a Special Performance on December 11th. The musical features the Academy Award-winning music and lyrics of Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, as well as new songs and additional music and lyrics by Olivier Award-winners George Stiles and Anthony Drewe and book by Academy Award-winner Julian Fellowes. The show has received 11 Outer Critics Circle nominations, 6 Drama Desk nominations and 3 Drama League nominations.
