Theatrical licensor Music Theatre International (MTI) has secured worldwide licensing rights to Broadway's Tony Award-winning musical, THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY.

The musical features a score by 2014 Tony Best Original Score and Best Orchestrations award winner Jason Robert Brown (PARADE, THE LAST FIVE YEARS, 13) and libretto by Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning Marsha Norman ('NIGHT MOTHER, THE SECRET GARDEN) and is based on the global best-selling novel by Robert James Waller.

Waller's novel captivated tens of millions of readers with the story of a beautiful Italian woman who married an American soldier to flee war-ravaged Italy. Her life on an Iowa farm is uncomplicated and predictable until the day a National Geographic photographer comes up her driveway looking for directions, forever changing the course of their lives. This passionate musical captures the lyrical expanse of America's heartland along with the deep yearning entangled in the eternal question, "What if...?"

According to the show's Director, Tony-winning director of SOUTH PACIFIC and THE LIGHT IN PIAZZA Bartlett Sher, "Bridges takes us deep into the heart of our country and the very moving situation of a beautiful young woman leaving Italy and suddenly living in Iowa, and her joyful discovery of love and painful but rewarding sacrifice. These are the deeper elements of our romance-location, contrasts and an event where something special happens in the lonely evocative landscape of Iowa- a farmhouse on the plains in the center of our country in 1965 on the brink of change and somehow the bridges- stark and beautiful- lead us into this world."

"Critics and audience members alike have raved about Jason Robert Brown's beautiful score since this show was in previews and audiences of all ages have been moved by Marsha's wonderful adaptation of the novel," stated Drew Cohen, President of MTI. "So many of our customers, in particular community theatres around the country, have expressed interest in sharing this powerful love story with their audiences."

THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY National Tour will begin in the Fall of 2015.
