MOMMIE QUEEREST Returns to Provincetown This Summer

On the 30th Anniversary of cult classic film Mommie Dearest, Jamie Morris' twisted comedy returns to its roots in Provincetown. In the summer of 2003 Mommie Queerest premiered in Provincetown to sold-out crowds and has since played every major city in America. Featuring an all-male cast, this LA Weekly Theater Award-winning play tells the now-famous story of Hollywood's baddest Mama and her rocky relationship with adopted daughter Christina, with a twist: What if Joan Crawford had really been a man? The play reunites playwright Jamie Morris (Joan) with Brooks Braselman as Christina. Christopher Kenney, also known to P-Town audiences as drag sensation Edie, will direct. Kenney's character Edie is currently featured as The Mistress of Sensuality, the host and emcee of one of the most popular shows in Las Vegas, Cirque du Soleil's Zumanity. Morris is best known for his stage parodies, which have toured the country since 2003. His other works include The Facts of Life: The Lost Episode and The Silence of the Clams, both of which had world premieres in Provincetown. He lives in Las Vegas and plays Father Mark in the long-running interactive comedy Tony 'n Tina's Wedding at Bally's Hotel & Casino. Mommie Queerest is co-produced by BevNap Productions and Extraordinary Talent Productions.

Among the stellar cast, Brooks Braselman (Christina) has appeared in P-Town in The Facts of Life: The Lost Episode, Silence of the Clams, Shut Up Sweet Charlotte, Whizzin, Love, Valour, Compassion, and Mommie Queerest for which he has been nominated for an LA Weekly Theater Award for Best Comic Performance. Brian Dunham (Greg, et al) also appeared last year in the Provincetown Theater production of The Food Chain, and in previous summers, performed in the one-man musical, Songs from an Unmade Bed, as well as in Take Me Out and the musical Working. He has also been seen in the World Premiere of Insatiable Hunger at Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater, and in Boston in The 39 Steps, The Glass Menagerie, The Food Chain, Eight Reindeer Monologues, Training Wisteria, Bell, Book, and Candle, and the New England premiere of Bare: The Musical. JoNathan Williams (Carol Ann et al) has appeared with the Regal Players in Waltham, MA, and the Provincetown Theatre Company in productions of Brigadoon, My Fair Lady, Annie, The Crucible, Cabaret, and has been seen locally in Provincetown's longest running drag show, Legends, in which he portrayed Celine Dion, Madonna and Cher. During that time he also achieved the title of Miss Gay Massachusetts, US of A.

Director Christopher Kenney won the LA Weekly Theater Award as Best Comedy Director for his work on Mommie Queerest, and was recently named by Las Vegas City Life readers as Best Local Theater Director for his work on Jamie Morris' trilogy of plays. In New York he created the character of Edie, and appeared with Roseanne on the MTV Video Music Awards, with Rosie O'Donnell on her 1000th show, and on Sex and the City. On Broadway he was seen in the Roundabout Theater's Tony-nominated revival of The Threepenny Opera. Since 2008, nearly three million people worldwide have enjoyed his character Edie as the "Mistress of Sensuality" in the hit Cirque du Soleil show Zumanity at the NY NY Hotel & Casino. He recently celebrated his 2,000th show and is the longest running emcee in the show's history. As a former professional dancer, Christopher also performed with Ballet Oregon, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet and Ballet Chicago.

Jamie Morris (Joan / playwright) was nominated for an LA Weekly Theatre Award for Best Comic Performance and Best Adaptation for his play Mommie Queerest, winning for Best Comedy Direction. The show has been seen in over two dozen cities since its world premier in P-Town in 2003. The Facts of Life: The Lost Episode likewise premiered in Provincetown the following summer and played nation-wide, including sold-out runs in NY and LA. The Silence of the Clams debuted in 2007 at the Art House and has since played in Dallas, Portland, and Las Vegas, where Jamie was named Outstanding Actor at the Las Vegas Review Journal's 13th Annual "Tony" Awards for his portrayal of Hannibal Lichter. He has also been seen in Provincetown in Love! Valour! Compassion!, is a three-time winner of the One-Minute Play Contest and has performed his sketch comedy at Caroline's Comedy Club and Catch a Rising Star in NYC.
