Stage Door Connections, in collaboration with Manhattan Movement & Arts Center, presents the BROADWAY DANCES Workshop Series. The BROADWAY DANCES Workshop Series is a pre-professional program created to prepare young dancers for auditions, performances and competitions, and to expose dancers to the different choreographic styles that are currently represented on Broadway. This series takes place Saturday mornings from 10am - 12pm from October 23 - November 20 at the Manhattan Movement & Arts Center, 248 W. 60th Street, NYC (between 10th and 11th). The 5-week workshop is $200. Reserve a spot at www.stagedoorconnections.com.

Our Pre-Professional faculty members are Broadway performers and Associate Choreographers. They will equip students with the tools they need to execute an effective audition or performance and help build the confidence to approach dance in a new and professional way. Whether dancers are preparing to audition for professional theater, a university program, a school play or dance team, or are preparing for a competition or a performance, the BROADWAY DANCES Workshop Series will make them more dynamic performers. This program is a fun, supportive way to master auditioning and performing skills while working with New York City's top industry professionals.

SCHEDULE:

Weeks 1 - 4:

Dance Technique and Show Repertoire

- Students will learn choreography from a cast member or Associate Choreographer of eight (8) currently running Broadway shows.

- Participants will master their auditioning and performing skills while learning various styles of Broadway choreography.

- Students will connect with industry professionals and participate in Q&A sessions to gain the practical information and experience necessary for a successful dance career.

Week 5:

Mock audition with Broadway Casting Director and Agent - Q&A and "meet and greet."

- Students will participate in a no-pressuremock audition to learn what dancers experience when auditioning.

- Students will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned from the previous sessions and receive individual feedback from one of New York City's top Casting Directors.

- Students will gain valuable information to make sure they look and feel their best in all of their future auditions and performances.

About Manhattan Movement & Arts Center
Manhattan Movement & Arts Center was developed by Rose Caiola as the home of the Manhattan Youth Ballet, a graded, pre-professional ballet academy and performance company. Ms. Caiola, a lifelong dance enthusiast and a former actress, founded the academy in the fall of 1994 as Studio Maestro at 48 W. 68th Street, and serves today as the youth ballet's executive artistic director.
The school is modeled after the European academies and adheres to the French School of classical ballet technique. Under the direction of Francois Perron, managing artistic director, the Manhattan Youth Ballet has acquired a reputation for excellent teaching in an intimate and individually supportive environment. The school's graduates have danced professionally with American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, Nederland Dans Theater, Ballet de Espana, San Francisco Ballet and Complexions.

As the ballet academy grew, the search for a larger space inspired in Ms. Caiola a highly personal vision of a studio and theater complex that would encompass all aspects of dance education and performance.

mmac opened its doors in June 2008, occupying a dramatic bi-level space within The Element, a luxury high-rise condominium located to the southwest of Lincoln Center. In addition to the Manhattan Youth Ballet, mmac's studios and theater host daily adult dance and fitness classes, the mmac Kids program, summer intensive programs, as well as an array of performances and special events.
