Luna, an evening of dance choreographed by Max Luna III, will be presented by Yangtze Repertory Theatre of America this Friday and Saturday, September 22 and 23.

The concert will play 3 performances at the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts at Pace University in Lower Manhattan on Friday the 22nd at 8 PM and Saturday the 23rd at 3 PM and 8 PM. The 3 PM show will benefit local Filipino foundations that train impoverished street children in the art of dance.

Luna's choreography is shaped by his intimate association with Alvin Ailey and the Ailey company, as well as his roots in the Filipino dance and artistic community.

The program will include a world premiere: "Mga Awit" (A Love Song Cycle for Voice, Cello and Piano) to live music from renowned Filipino musician Michael Dadap, as well as: "American Rhapsody" (Music: George & Ira Gershwin), originally commissioned by Teatro Nuovo. Filipino tribal pieces, a tribute to Alvin Ailey, and more will round out the program.

Max Luna III "has a performance, teaching and choreography career spanning 30 years with international dance companies, including the last fifteen years with The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.  He began his training in his birthplace of Manila, Philippines culminating in a scholarship with the Ballet Philippines.

In the United States, Mr. Luna continued his training with scholarships from the American Ballet Theater School, School of American Ballet, and the Joffrey Ballet School.  He then joined the Ballet Neuvo Mundo de Caracas and went on to dance with the Ballet Hispanico, Joyce Trisler Dance Company, Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal and finally six highly acclaimed years dancing with the Ailey company."

Tickets are $15 for Friday and Saturday evenings (Seniors/student $12). For the benefit performance on Saturday, the tickets are $100, $50, and $25.
