Linda Hamilton Cast in Berkshire Theatre Fest's 'Iguana'

Film star Linda Hamilton has been cast as the earthy Maxine in the upcoming Berkshire Theatre Festival production of the Tennesee Williams classic The Night of the Iguana, running from August 1st through 12th.

The Night of the Iguana concerns a spinster and a defrocked clergyman who become attracted to one another. The production will also feature Robin Weigert as Hannah Jelkes, Garrett Dillahunt as Reverend Shannon, Aya Cash as Charlotte Goodall, Sam Kitchin as Jake Latta, Charlotte Meier as Judith Fellows, and Bill Swan as Nonno. Anders Cato will direct.

The play opened at the Royale Theatre on December 28th, 1961, and ran for 316 performances; it originally starred Bette Davis, Margaret Leighton, Patrick O'Neal and more. Richard Burton, Ava Gardner and Deborah Kerr starred in the 1964 film adaptation. A 1996 revival starred Cherry Jones.

Hamilton starred in the first two of the popular Terminator action movies. Emmy-nominated for her work on the TV series "Beauty and the Beast," she has also appeared on screen and TV in "Thief," On the Lion, Dante's Peak, Mr. Destiny, "Hill Street Blues," and more.

The theatre will also present, on its mainstage, Peter Shaffer's Amadeus (June 20th-July 8th), Tina Howe's Coastal Disturbances (July 11th through July 29th), and Wendy Wasserstein's The Heidi Chronicles (August 15th-Sept. 2nd). The Unicorn Theatre's line-up includes Tony Kushner's The Illusion (May 25th through June 24th), Terrence McNally's Where Has Tommy Flowers Gone? (June 28th through July 22nd), and Stephen Temperley's The Pilgrim Papers (July 28th-August 26th), and David Hare's Via Dolorosa (August 29th-Oct. 21st).
