Lincoln Center Brings Local Silent Disco to Queens Tonight

Lincoln Center Local Silent Disco, a night of disco dancing under the stars, will take place tonight, September 12, in Hunter's Point South Waterfront Park in Queens as part of Lincoln Center's effort to bring its art and entertainment programs to all the boroughs of New York City. This free event was planned by the offices of Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, New York City Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer, Chair of the Cultural Affairs Committee, and Lincoln Center.

Lincoln Center Local Silent Disco will open at 5:30 pm, and the dance lesson will start at 6:00 pm, given by professional dance instructor Diane Nardone. Beginning at 7:00 pm, dancers will start dancing to the music being fed into the wireless headphones they were given when they arrived. While casual observers see a seemingly odd public ritual as dancers revel to the "silent" beats, the dancers are actually a part of an exhilarating public/private dance party. Two DJs - Bill Coleman and hustle mainstay Bobby Morales - will spin different sets in each headphone channel, creating simultaneous and ever-shifting dance parties. The dancing will continue until 10:00 pm.

The event is free - attendance is on a first come, first served basis. Personal id is required to obtain headphones - either student id if under 18 or credit card or government issued id such as driver's license for adults. Donations to Lincoln Center are possible and optional. Refreshments will be available for sale. South Waterfront Park is accessed by the #7 subway, the Vernon-Jackson stop.
