Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Wendy Wasserstein's acclaimed play UNCOMMON WOMEN AND OTHERS returns to New York on May 13th, 2013 at 8pm for a one-night only 35th Anniversary benefit reading in the Theresa Lang Theatre at Marymount Manhattan College (221 East 71st Street), home of the landmark original Phoenix Theatre production in 1977. The reading will be directed by Leigh Silverman and will feature an all-star cast. All proceeds will benefit TDF Open Doors (www.tdf.org/opendoors), a mentoring program co-founding by Ms. Wasserstein and Roy Harris that "matches dozens of distinguished theatre and dance professionals with small groups of high school students with no prior exposure to theatre." The evening is produced by The Indigo Theatre Project (Nick Gereffi and Rachel Sussman, Co-Founding Artistic Directors), a theater company that strives to unite passion with purpose by producing high-profile readings of notable plays to benefit charities aligned with the work being read.

The reading will star Celia Keenan-Bolger as 'Kate Quin,' Laura Benanti as 'Samantha Stewart,' Merritt Wever as 'Holly Caplan,' Lisa Joyce as 'Muffet DiNicola,' Aya Cash as 'Rita Altabel,' Lisa Kron as 'Mrs. Plumm,' Jenni Barber as 'Susie Friend,' Tracee Chimoas 'Carter,' and Cristin Milioti as 'Leilah,' with Byron Jennings as 'The Male Voice' andMelissa Ross as 'Narrator/ Stage Directions'.

Set amidst the second-wave feminist movement of the 1970s, UNCOMMON WOMEN AND OTHERS follows the lives, loves, and losses of a close-knit circle of friends at Mount Holyoke College (itself Wasserstein's own alma matter.) As the women reunite six years after graduation, the story flashes back to the seminal moments in their lives as classmates to examine what inspired them, what affected them, and ultimately what shaped them. Told in the signature voice of Wendy Wasserstein at the very inception of her illustrious career, UNCOMMON WOMEN AND OTHERS is a poignant story about the intimate connection between who you were, who you are, and who you want to be.
