Karen Mason, one of Broadway and cabaret's most powerful performers, is bringing her acclaimed yearly holiday concert, Christmas!  Christmas!  Christmas!, to Birdland (315 West 44th Street) on Monday, December 13th at 7pm.  Cover charge is $30 with a $10 food/drink minimum.

Miss Mason's show has been a holiday tradition in New York City for over twenty years, and includes holiday favorites like "I'll Be Home For Christmas," "Santa Claus is Coming To Town," "Silent Night," "Joy To The World," and JoniMitchell's "River."  Christopher Denny is musical director, Bob Renino will be on bass, and Barry Kleinbort directs.

Ms Mason originated the role of Tanya on Broadway in ABBA's
MAMMA MIA! for which she was awarded a 2002 Drama Desk Nomination.  Karen is also known for playing the starring role of "Norma Desmond" in Sunset Boulevard, which she performed to critical acclaim and standing ovations on Broadway and in Los Angeles for three years.  Other New York theatre credits include: Jerome Robbins' Broadway (playing Mazeppa and singing "Mr. Monotony"), Play Me A Country Song, and Torch Song Trilogy on Broadway.  She was seen Off-Broadway in Carnival (1993 Drama Desk Award nominee for playing Rosalie), And the World Goes Round (Outer Critics Circle Award) and Karen Mason Sings Broadway, Beatles and Brian
.  An acclaimed vocalist and 7-time MAC Award winner, Karen has headlined at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Russian Tea Room, Rainbow & Stars, the Algonquin, Eighty Eights and The Ballroom in New York, The Cinegrill and the UCLA/ASCAP Concert Series in Los Angeles, The Plush Room in San Francisco, and Davenport's in Chicago.  She has shared concert stages with Luciano Pavarotti, Rosemary Clooney, Liza Minnelli, Michael Feinstein, Jerry Herman, and John Kander & Fred Ebb, among others.  She has given concerts in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Brazil, Scotland; with John McDaniel conducting the St. Louis Symphony; with the Chicagoland Pops Orchestra (as premier artist); and with Skitch Henderson & The New York Pops in NY & Japan.

Of Karen's holiday show, Howard Reich from the Chicago Tribune said,  "Here, at last, is the rare musical evening that explores how people really feel at a time of year that can stir poignant memories and long-buried emotions.  Mason, as honest a song interpreter as any in the business, addresses bad times as well as good, Christmastime blues as well as holiday cheer.  Her view of Christmas is less Frank Capra and more Woody Allen."
