Artistic Director Devon Carney today announced New Moves, a unique performance event designed to search out, develop and showcase emerging choreographers, both locally (some within Kansas City Ballet) and from the national dance scene. It is designed to provide time and space for dancers and guest choreographers to create world premiere works. This season's choreographers include four Company dancers Travis Guerin, Anthony Krutzkamp, Charles Martin, and Ian Poulis and two guest choreographers, Erin Novak-Lustig, the artistic director from Seamless Dance Theatre who recently was honored by the Federation of Dance Competitions as its 2013 Humanitarian of the Year, and Ilya Kozadayev, a former soloist with Houston Ballet and currently on faculty with Oklahoma University pursuing his Master's Degree in Choreography.

Performances will be at the Michael and Ginger Frost Studio Theater at the Todd Bolender Center for Dance & Creativity Friday, March 28, Saturday, March 29 and Saturday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Friday, April 4 (First Friday) at 6 p.m.

"An important part of the Kansas City Ballet's mission is to expand the cultural minds of our audiences by enriching their lives with as many different forms of movement as possible. Also, in the ever evolving world of dance it is very important to offer the opportunity for new choreographic voices to be heard and seen. New Moves is that chance to bring these two priorities together and witness world premiere choreographic works that dare to push the boundaries and bring one to the very cutting edge of new and innovative performances of the art form of dance," Carney stated. "These performances will bring our audiences right up to the feet of our dancers in our intimate theatre setting. Audiences will experience these works in a very palpable, visceral, up close and personal way. They will see the athleticism, feel the heat and hear the breath from our incredible artists as they perform unusual and never before seen New Moves!"
