No. 2, with pianist Yefim Bronfman as soloist, and Koda?ly's Dances of Gala?nta, Dvor?a?k's The Water Goblin, and Ravel's La Valse, Thursday, February 18, 2016, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, February 19 at 11:00 a.m.; Saturday, February 20 at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, February 23 at 7:30 p.m.

Koda?ly's Dances of Gala?nta is based on folk music from Gala?nta - now part of Slovakia, where Juraj Valc?uha grew up and where Koda?ly spent part of his childhood - that the composer discovered in books of Hungarian dances published in Vienna. Dvor?a?k's The Water Goblin is based on a poem that, in turn, was inspired by a Czech folk legend. Ravel's La Valse was originally titled Wien (Vienna) and originally conceived as "a sort of apotheosis of the Viennese waltz"; though Ravel denied it, some interpreted the work as a reflection of the destruction in Austria during World War I.

Juraj Valc?uha is returning to the Philharmonic following his acclaimed December 2012 debut. The New York Times wrote that "
