Juan Antonio Bayona to Helm WORLD WAR Z Sequel

The Impossible director Juan Antonio Bayona has signed on to helm Paramount's planned WORLD WAR Z sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

'Z,' starring Brad Pitt, turned out to be one of the summer's biggest box office surprises, taking in $202 million in the U.S., and $540 internationally.

The film, directed by Marc Forster, was based on Max Brooks' best-selling novel "World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War," the story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.

Pitt will also return to star in and produce the sequel.

Bayona is an acclaimed and award-winning director, best known for his work on the hugely successful 2007 horror film The Orphanage and the 2012 Oscar-contender The Impossible, starring Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts in her Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated role.
