John Cameron Mitchell Reflects On HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH, Plus Looks Ahead To New Sequel
Acclaimed actor, writer and director John Cameron Mitchell opens up about the impact of acclaimed rock musical HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH as well as shares some new details on the upcoming sequel as part of a new interview.
Discussing his participation in the acclaimed new Broadway production of HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH, Mitchell relates, "I feel good - I feel proud of this production on Broadway, [for] which I was more of a godfather; I didn't direct it."
"It's funny because we were always the dirty underdogs," Mitchell says of HEDWIG's beginnings and how the show was first perceived by the theatre community at large.
"There's something cool about being a stealth classic," he says.
Additionally, Mitchell hints at the daringness inherent in the sequel he is currently penning along with original HEDWIG composer/lyricist Stephen Trask.
"I'm working on the sequel, which is much weirder and would not be on Broadway - well, maybe 15 years from now," Mitchell says of how HEDWIG was ahead of its time when it premiered in 1998 and the sequel looks to be much the same in its current form.
