One of South Africa's longest standing and most celebrated theatre companies presents the world premiere of their new production in February and March 2015.

Magnet Theatre's I TURNED AWAY AND SHE WAS GONE, will be performed Wednesday to Saturdays from 18 February until 14 March 2015 at 20:00 at Magnet Theatre in Cape Town.

Magnet Theatre has been at the forefront of the theatre industry for twenty seven years, creating groundbreaking educational programmes and productionsthat have toured nationally and abroad to acclaim across four continents and twenty four international festivals.

Written and performed by theatre legend Jennie Reznek, I TURNED AWAY AND SHE WAS GONE is a captivating reworking of the Demeter and Persephone story. It reviews the relationships between the three incarnations of women: a mother, a daughter and grandmother, and the passage of our past, present and future selves. The bonds that connect mothers and children, the cycle of daughters transforming into mothers and into ageing parents and the inevitable loss of life are poetically explored on this journey of discovery.

I TURNED AWAY AND SHE WAS GONE is a human story looking at connections between us and the relationship we have with ourselves, while examining the rites of passage that women move through, from young girl, to adolescent, to woman and mother.

"As a woman evolves and her body changes, her identity shifts and the relationship she has with her younger self also changes," says Reznek. "I TURNED AWAY AND SHE WAS GONE is a powerful story for both males and females, capturing the delicate and beautiful cycle of life."

The show excitingly marks Reznek's first one woman show in more than two decades since The Show's Not Over Til the Fat Lady Sings, and reunites the stellar core creative Magnet Theatre team of director Professor Mark Fleishman; designer Craig Leo (Tall Horse;Or You Could Kiss Me; London Road;War Horse); choreographer Ina Wichterich (Every Year, Every Day, I am Walking, Cargo, Rain in a Dead Man's Footprint; Biko's Quest)and original music by Neo Muyanga (BLK Sonshine; The Flower of Shembe; Memory of How It Feels).
