Jason Gotay, Alex Brightman & Julia Mattison to Star in Reading of Drew Gasparini's CRAZY, JUST LIKE ME at June Havoc Theatre, 11/18
An industry reading of Drew Gasparini's musical Crazy, Just Like Me, winner of the 2011 Best of Fest Award at the New York Musical Theatre Festival, is to be presented on November 18 at 1:00pm and 4:00 pm at the Abingdon Theatre Art Complex's June Havoc Theatre (312 West 36th Street). Stephen Agosto to direct.
The ensemble includes Broadway veterans Alex Brightman (Wicked, Big Fish), Stephen DeRosa (Hairspray, Twentieth Century, Betrayal) Jason Gotay (Spiderman, Bring It On, F#%king Up Everything), Andrew Kober (Hair), and Julia Mattison (Godspell.)
Crazy, Just Like Me is described as "the story of three twenty-somethings who are teetering on the brink of large, personal discoveries. Simon and Mike have been best friends since diapers, and are roommates. Lauren is Mike's insightful, confident girlfriend. The relationship between the three of them shifts when Simon begins seeing a therapist and feelings start...coming to the surface."
Crazy, Just Like Me was featured in the National Alliance of Musical Theater showcase in 2009, the San Francisco theatre festival in 2009 and the 2011 New York Musical Theater Festival. Gasparini has also written the music and lyrics for Circles, Inappropriate Stories Told at a Bar, The Up/Down, Make Me Bad (winner PACE new musicals 2013, book by Alex Brightman), Turn of the Screw (presented at Lincoln Center, book by Michael Kimmel), and #Untitled Pop Musical book by Michael Kimmel. His work also appears on the second season of NBC's "Smash."
Craig Horsley and 9J Entertainment LLC are producing this reading. Mr. Horsley has been a patron of theater for twenty years. When he first saw Crazy, Just Like Me at NYMF in 2011, he knew he wanted to be actively involved to get this show produced.
