INTAR (Lou Moreno, Artistic Director/John McCormack, Executive Director) today announced the first production of its 2013 - '14 season: UBU, with text by Adam Szymkowicz and directed by Daniel Irizarry.

Inspired by Ubu Roi, UBU is the King of the Great Expanding Universe who will allow a privileged few into his mansion to watch him eat steak. Along the way, he plays music, reads you poetry and tells of his lost loves and purchased politicians -- it all depends on the mood of the King. A kinetic romp through the absurdist world of the most powerful CEO in the universe. UBU was originally developed by One-Eighth, a new theater company beginning a one-year residency at INTAR. UBU is the first of two productions to be presented as part One-Eighth Theater's residency at INTAR.

UBU will begin performances Off-Broadway September 12th and continue through October 6th. Daniel Irizarry will direct a cast that includes Laura Butler Rivera, Michael Mullen, Anita Petry, Edith Raw, John Gentile, Aldo Uribe, Nicole Betancourt and himself in the title role. "Daniel was born to play UBU" said renowned director Andrei Serban.

UBU will have scenic design by Mikiko Suzuki MacAdams, lighting design by Lucrecia Briceno, costume design by Marea Judilla, Edith Raw, and Aris Mejías, and sound design by Marcelo Añez.

Founded by its Artistic Directors Daniel Irizarry and Laura Butler Rivera, One-Eighth is kicking off its one-year residency at INTAR Theatre with UBU. Visit www.one-eighth.us for more about the company.

"INTAR exists to promote and support Latino voices in the American theater. Some of these voices come not from a single person but from collaborations of like minded artists. supporting collaborations as well as individuals speaks to the breadth of Intar's reach as well as our history. Daniel Irizarry is an extraordinary voice from our community. INTAR is proud to help launch his newest venture, One-Eighth Theater, along with Laura Butler Rivera and Adam Szymkowicz," said INTAR Artistic Director Lou Moreno.

Performances will be Thursday through Saturday, evenings at 8PM, with matinees Sundays at 5PM. UBU runs just over one hour. Tickets, which are only $18, may be purchased at www.intartheatre.org or by calling 212/352-3101. All performances will take place at INTAR's theater space (500 West 52nd Street, at Tenth Avenue, on the 4th Floor).
