Jeremy Herrin announces his plans as Artistic Director of Headlong with new work from some of theatre's most exciting and original voices; Anya Reiss, Jennifer Haley, Jack Thorne and Duncan Macmillan, who will be joining the company as a Literary Associate.

In a season which is at once bold and intellectually thrilling, Herrin is building on the company's extraordinary critical and commercial success with a vigorous programme of work across the country.

As one of the UK's leading touring theatre companies, Headlong will be continuing its commitment to nurturing the next generation of theatre makers and working with some of the most inventive artists. The company will also be stretching its artistic ambition in establishing new collaborations and partnerships with some of the country's foremost theatres.

Headlong's season will be presented in collaboration with leading UK theatres where the plays will receive their premieres.

Jeremy Herrin said 'I am delighted to announce this season of shows, which are about what it is like to be alive now with all its contradictions and in all its glory. Headlong is about making exhilarating work and getting it out around the country and around the world, so it is brilliant to find new ways to engage with our regional partners by co-commissioning and co-producing plays with increasing ambition. It is an honour to be able to build on the company's recent remarkable successes, and I couldn't be more excited about joining with audiences, funders, colleagues and partners on starting this journey.'

NEW THREE YEAR PARTNERSHIP WITH West Yorkshire Playhouse

Headlong is delighted to be continuing its emerging director scheme in a new three-year partnership with West Yorkshire Playhouse. Ben Kidd will direct the world premiere of award-winning playwright Anya Reiss's new version of Spring Awakening in March 2014. Spring Awakening is also co-produced with the Nuffield and will tour to UK venues from Spring 2014.

Few up-and-coming directors have the chance to direct in different spaces to different audiences supported by an experienced creative and technical team. This hugely successful model, now in its fifth year, allows a director in the Early Stages of their career the opportunity to present work on main stages across the country.

The programme has previously supported work from Simon Godwin, Natalie Abrahami, Robert Icke and Blanche McIntrye who recently won the TMA Award for Best Director for her critically acclaimed production of The Seagull also for Headlong, the Nuffield and in association with Derby Theatre.

NEW COLLABORATION WITH THE JMK TRUST

In keeping with the company's ambition of supporting and nurturing emerging directors, Headlong is teaming up with the JMK Trust to offer workshops and training to directors' groups at venues around the UK including Bristol Old Vic, Salisbury Playhouse, Traverse Theatre, Birmingham Rep, West Yorkshire Playhouse and Northern Stage, as part of the Trust's regional programme.

More details to be announced shortly.
