in 1955, Harand Camp was one of the first co-ed, residential camps to combine musical theater with the fun of traditional camp life. Harand offers first-rate arts training for campers ages 7-18, plus activities, sports, and camp fun in a supportive, family environment. Sessions run one, three, or six weeks and culminate with large-scale performances in a 400-seat, state-of-the-art theater.

In preparation for final shows, campers take daily classes in singing, dancing, and acting with occasional rehearsals in the evening. Harand Camp adheres to a non-competitive philosophy where "no man is an island" and everyone is a star. The goal is for every camper to develop performance skills while also building self-confidence.

The late Lois Weisberg, former Chicago Commissioner of Cultural Affairs, once said "[Harand has] made a tremendous contribution to arts education. The Harand's approach should be reinvented today in the public schools. Their model is an extraordinary model for teaching."

During the first three-week session (Pageant: June 18 - July 9) campers perform in a major musical revue featuring the entire camp. Each group stars in two sections of non-stop singing and dancing wearing amazing costumes. During the second three-week session (Musicals: July 10 - 30) each group prepares a full-length musical with every camper performing a lead role and in the ensemble - ensuring everyone has the chance to shine. Campers may also attend for six weeks (June 18- July 30) or a unique one-week session (Workshop: June 18 - 24) exclusive to new campers, ages 7-12. This option is perfect for children who have never been to overnight camp and culminates in a workshop performance featuring selections from the Pageant. Enrollment is very limited and one-weekers have the option to stay.

In addition to the theatre program, campers take three electives per day. Options include a variety of sports, fitness, fine arts, performance, production and general activity classes. Evenings feature an exciting schedule of cabin nights, rehearsals, games, concerts and off-campus trips.

Emmy-Award winning actor Jeremy Piven, remembers his time at camp fondly saying "Harand is like living the dream for me. How many places in the world can you go as a kid and get fulfillment performing in plays - without all the politics - and still get to play sports all day long? I will never forget that magical place."

Campers also enjoy the comfort of modern facilities, residing in dorms overlooking Lake Michigan. Delicious meals are served in a renovated dining hall which features an extensive menu by Sodexo. Accommodations can be made for special dietary needs. Other amenities include: 400-seat theatre, Olympic-size pool, dance & fitness center, on-campus security, certified nurse, and a low staff/camper ratio. Harand Camp is accredited by the American Camp Association and received the Program Excellence Award in 2013.

Harand Camp strives to make the camp experience affordable for all families and offers a variety of discounts, payment plans and scholarships. Need-based scholarships are awarded through the Harand Camp Scholarship Fund, a 501c3 organization. Scholarship applications are available at www.harandcamp.com and due by April 15, 2017.

Harand was originally established in 1952 by sisters Sulie and Pearl Harand as the Harand Studios of the Theatre Arts, one of the nation's first theater training centers for children. In 1955 the studio expanded to an overnight summer camp and has since served thousands of families from around the world. Harand is considered second home by thousands of alums who have built lifelong friendships and cherished memories. Many have left a mark in the arts, education, politics, and other fields, citing the positive impact of Harand, and the skills, relationships and confidence developed at camp.
