The Howard County Arts Council announces the opening on January 14, 2011 of two new exhibits in the galleries at the Howard County Center for the Arts Gallery I will showcase three Maryland artists who have used light as a subject matter. The exhibit, entitled Source, features a video installation by Symmes Gardner, selfilluminated light totems and wall sculptures by Melissa Burley, and stunningly simple black & white photography by Lynn Silverman. In Gallery II, small and meticulous is the theme in Fastidious Studies with embroidery pieces by Catonsville artist Suzanne Herbert-Forton, photography by Maryland artist Anne Chan, and sculpture by North Dakota artist Donovan Widmer.

Both exhibits run through February 25, 2011. A reception for both exhibits will be held January 28, from 6pm-8pm. Snow date is February 4. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 10AM - 8PM, Saturday 10AM - 4PM, and Sunday 12 - 4PM. To learn more about HCAC programs and exhibits, call 410-313-ARTS (2787) or visit www.hocoarts.org.
