HERE Announces CULTUREMART 2013, 1/28-2/10
The OBIE-winning HERE has announced the line-up for its annual CULTUREMART festival, this year running January 28 - February 10. CULTUREMART makes process the focus, presenting work in various stages of development from the boundary-breaking artists in the HERE Artist Residency Program (HARP). CULTUREMART provides a platform for HARP artists to blur the lines between dance, theater, music, multimedia, puppetry and visual art, on their journey to mainstage productions. CULTUREMART 2013 boasts 15 adventurous workshop performances featuring inspirations and elements such as puppets and pigeons, science and song, dance and twist-ties, and much more.
HERE's unique producing residency programs (HARP & Dream Music) commission and develop cross-disciplinary performance work through long-term relationships (1-3 years) with mid-career artists. While in residence, artists have opportunities to present work during various stages of development through work-in-progress showings and more fully developed, beautifully produced workshops during CULTUREMART. This vibrant annual festival offers a vital step in the evolution of new work, thrilling for artists and audiences alike.
Resident artist projects seen at CULTUREMART culminate in mainstage productions at HERE. This year's festival features 8 works by the newest resident artists, 3 works that have been seen in past CULTUREMART festivals, and 3 productions by HERE residency alumni back with new projects in development. Additionally, CULTUREMART 2013 includes a new work from HERE Artistic Director Kristin Marting, collaborating with designer David Evans Morris on a participatory performance. CULTUREMART alumni include Young Jean Lee, Taylor Mac, Lisa D'Amour, Faye Driscoll, Erin Orr, Troika Ranch, Corey Dargel, Theatre of a Two-Headed Calf, and many more.
CULTUREMART 2013 takes place in both of HERE's theaters: the Mainstage and the Dorothy B. Williams Theater. Full schedule follows.
