Samuel French, the world's premiere theatrical publishing and licensing company, just announced its exclusive representation of worldwide professional and amateur stage performance rights to Heathers The Musical. Direct from its Off-Broadway run, the delightfully dark musical joins the Samuel French catalogue alongside other great musicals such as Grease, Chicago, The Rocky Horror Show, and Rock of Ages.

"Samuel French is home to some of the world's greatest musicals and we are proud to welcome Heathers to our collection," says Executive Director, Bruce Lazarus. "With a high-voltage score and deranged sense of humor, at its core it has something important to say about bullying, hazing and sexual harassment in schools. The show also has a huge and loyal fan base. At the Off-Broadway production, audiences dressed in costumes, yelled out dialogue and sang along with every song, reminiscent of the cult following of The Rocky Horror Show."

Heathers The Musical comes from the award-winning creative team of Laurence O'Keefe (Legally Blonde, Bat Boy) and Kevin Murphy (Reefer Madness). It opened in New York City at New World Stages on Mach 31, 2014, under the direction of Andy Fickman (Reefer Madness) with choreography by Marguerite Derricks (films: Fame, Charlie's Angels).

Based on the 1989 classic film, Heathers, the musical is a retro-'80s romp into the scariest place of all: high school. At Westerberg High, jocks roam the halls, nerds cower in fear, and a trio of queen bees, "The Heathers," reign supreme. When misfit Veronica Sawyer rebels against the vicious clique, she unwittingly helps her new boyfriend - dark, sexy new kid, J.D. -with his ultimate plan: kill the cool kids. Darkly funny, sincere and moving, Heathers is the perfect show for the teen -and the teen angst -inside us all.

The original feature film launched the careers of its stars, Winona Ryder, Christian Slater and Shannen Doherty. The edgiest of teen movies from the 1980s, Heathers spawned memorable slang ("What's your damage?") and iconic fashion, remaining a cult classic to this day. It was ranked at number five on Entertainment Weekly's list of the "Greatest High School Movies of All Time" in 2006.

Samuel French is now accepting requests for professional and amateur rights. For inquiries, contact a Samuel French Theatrical Specialist at 866-598-8449 or visit www.samuelfrench.com.
